I've gotten many a free run (LA to Beacons, Beacons to Droks, dungeons, etc) simply because I managed to catch someone who was testing a build/run, or simply didn't care about getting anything in return (of course they did, I like to tip good runners high when I can). On a similar note, I was trying to get a run from Droks to Granite Citadel and Marhan's Grotto, and one of the people being run paid for the entire group. That was pretty awesome.

My friend I play with and I swap items back and forth whenever one of us gets something the other might want/need. I wanted a Kaolin Wand for my Rit, he gave me the one he got. I gave him a Hidesplitter's Spear. I gave him the remaining steel ingots he needed for his Primeval armor, he gave me a Bubahl's Grasp as I was outfitting heroes on another character. He helped me with a mission I was having issues with so I could get Protector of Elona, I farmed him the skree wings for the black moa chick. And so on.

Last night I made a new character and was in Ascalon, and saw a ton of people giving things away. It was pretty nice.

My guildmates and I are always sharing stuff, like party/sweet/booze points, if anyone ever needs a tome, mod or something like that, there is always a bunch of people willing to share.

I started playing with some friends and we all swapped items between us as needed. We joined a larger guild with some very experienced people who would not only tell you how to play, but why. Nobody ever said "just buy a run", they would come and help you through it. Wonderful people to play with.

Before that, I have to say I haven't had too many asshole experiences. I PUGed my way through Prophecies and met some awesome people.
